Teeth Whitening Can Dramatically Brighten Your Smile

Teeth whitening is a fast, effective way to brighten your smile by eliminating deep stains. Red wine, coffee, berries, mustard, and other foods and drinks can stain your teeth over time. Age, genetics, and certain medications can also cause the teeth to darken. Dr. Robert J. Matlach provides in-office and take-home teeth whitening options at our Huntington practice. Both methods can help you achieve a smile that looks healthier and more attractive, and help you to feel more confident in your appearance. In-office Teeth Whitening

If you choose to undergo in-office teeth whitening, Dr. Matlach will use the Zoom!® system, which can brighten teeth up to eight shades in just one treatment. After your teeth are isolated with a protective guard, a carbamide peroxide-based gel is applied to the teeth. Next, a special LED light is trained on the teeth, intensifying the effects of the gel. After 15 minutes, the gel is removed and reapplied two more times. After about an hour, you will already see a dramatic enhancement in the appearance of your smile.

Zoom!® is infused with desensitizers for increased patient comfort, so most patients report no sensitivity or side effects following their treatment. Dr. Matlach can also adjust the LED light to precise calibrations according to a patient's level of tooth sensitivity and whitening goals.

After your in-office treatment, we provide take-home touch-up kits. Periodic at-home treatment can help you maintain your bright new smile.

Zoom!® Take-home Teeth Whitening

To whiten at home, patients will inject a pre-mixed hydrogen peroxide gel into custom-molded trays provided to them by Dr. Matlach. These trays fit snugly over patients' teeth, keeping the gel in place, and can be worn a few hours a day or at night over the course of about a week, or until the desired results are achieved. Dr. Matlach can adjust the level of peroxide based on each patient's needs.

Our take-home whitening gel is infused with amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) and potassium nitrate. These ingredients protect the enamel of the teeth during whitening and reduce tooth sensitivity. Most of our patients report little to no sensitivity with proper use of our take-home kits.

Treating Intrinsic Stains

Staining can also occur on the inside surfaces of a tooth. These stains often develop following a root canal. Intrinsic stains do not respond to Zoom!® whitening, but we do offer a special whitening treatment that can help your tooth look healthier. This treatment is usually administered two or three times over the course of a few weeks to achieve the desired effect.
